Schumacher, Hagan, Anderson and Tonglet Claim Victory
ENNIS, Texas – Tony Schumacher continued his impressive run at the Texas Motorplex by racing to the Top Fuel victory Sunday at the 25th Annual O’Reilly Super Start Batteries NHRA Fall Nationals presented by Castrol Syntec.
Matt Hagan (Funny Car); Greg Anderson (Pro Stock); and L.E. Tonglet (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also were winners in their respective categories at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series event.
Schumacher claimed victory at the Texas Motorplex for the fifth time, including a victory last year. He defeated Shawn Langdon in the final-round at the Texas Motorplex, after outrunning Cory McClenathan, Steve Torrence and Mike Strasburg in earlier rounds. Schumacher posted a 3.838 second run at 320.43 mph to hold off Langdon who finished with in 3.908 at 298.67.
Matt Hagan defeated crowd favorite John Force in the Funny Car final. Hagan finished in 4.155 at 294.63 in his DieHard Charger for his third win of the season and 5th of his career, while Force trailed with a 4.491 at 203.74 in his Castrol GTX Mustang. Hagan had to get past Ashley Force Hood, Cruz Pedregon, and Jeff Arend after entering the day qualified 14th. With the victory, Hagan, took sole possession of second place in the point standings.
Anderson claimed his second straight victory at this event and second straight win of the season in Pro Stock by driving his Summit Racing Pontiac GXP to a 6.595 at 209.39 to hold off points leader Mike Edwards, who finished with a 6.612 at 208.46 in his Penhall/K&N/Interstate GXP.
Anderson qualified ninth and beat Shane Gray, Allen Johnson and Ronnie Humphrey. With the win Anderson closes the gap with current points leader Mike Edwards to just 16 points.
In Pro Stock Motorcycle, L.E. Tonglet raced to his third consecutive victory of the season with a final-round performance of 6.972 at 187.94 on his Nitro Fish Suzuki to hold off former world champ current points leader Andrew Hines, who left early with a -.006 red-light on his Screamin’ Eagle Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson. With the win, Tonglet narrowed the gap with Hines to 44.
Tonglet who has defeated Hines in the last three event finals reached this final by getting wins over Eddie Krawiec, Karen Stoffer, and Angie Smith.
The racing action will continue at the Texas Motorplex with the Summit ET Bracket Finals on October 7th through the 10th and the ADRL World Finals VI on October 22nd through the 23rd. For more information log on to texasmotorplex.com.
