JEGS ALLSTAR TOP ALCOHOL REGIONAL TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP INTRODUCED

GLENDORA, Calif. (June 20, 2012) — NHRA and JEGS Mail Order announced today the formation of the JEGS Allstars Top Alcohol Regional Team Championship.  Beginning in 2013, Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car competitors will represent their home regions in team completion against the representatives from the other three regions. The four regions are the East, North Central, Central, and West.

Each Regional Team will include the top two JEGS Allstars points earners in both Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car with the defending JEGS Allstars champion receiving an automatic bid as one of the two racers from his or her home region.

“With the new NHRA regional format for the top alcohol classes we needed to come up with something to keep them a part of the Team Championship which is such a big part of the JEGS Allstars program,” said Scott Woodruff, director of media and motorsports, JEGS. “This new addition to the program combines both the Team Championship along with exciting competition for both the racers and the fans.”

In 2012 the JEGS Allstar program celebrates its 28th year of competition that will take place on June 30 at Route 66 Raceway during the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series event, June 28-July 1. Pro Stock driver Jeg Coughlin Jr. has been an Allstars representative six times, winning the Super Gas class twice. Several of today’s NHRA Full Throttle Series stars are past Allstars participants including Top Fuel drivers Morgan Lucas (Top Alcohol Dragster, 2003 and 2004; won in ‘03), Shawn Langdon (SC, 2005-07; won in ’05 and ’06) and Spencer Massey (TAD, 2007 and 2008;  won in ’07) as well as Funny Car drivers Tim Wilkerson (Top Alcohol Funny Car, 1995) and Jack Beckman (Super Comp 2004 and 2005; runner-up ‘04).
