LOPEZ CLINCHES SUPER GAS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
GLENDORA, Calif. – Jeff Lopez clinched the 2012 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Super Gas National Championship with a final round appearance at the recent South Central divisional event in Baytown, Texas.
The Bedford, Texas, racer began his 2012 campaign in the exact same way, advancing to the Super Gas final at the division opener Texas Sportsman Challenge in Baytown back in March, then again in Baytown at the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Spring Nationals in April. He added four more final rounds, including a win at S.R.C. A. Dragstrip in Great Bend, Kan., over Kari Larson in his ’63 Corvette roadster.
Lopez sits a top of the Super Gas points with 692 followed by Sherman Adcock, who is out of races to claim, at 647. His other final rounds came in Topeka, Kan., (National); Tulsa, Okla., (divisional); and Noble, Okla., (divisional). He is also currently 10th in the Super Comp National Championship points hoping to stay in the top 10 for the year having one more divisional event left to claim, with plans on competing at the final Lucas Oil divisional of the year in Las Vegas, November 1-4.
Where this is his first national championship, he earned the NHRA South Central Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Super Comp championship in 2010.
