The marketing expert will head up the track’s sales and sponsorship.

2013-07-25KatieTNENNIS, Texas (July 25, 2013) – Marketing maven Katie Menzer is exchanging Ferris wheels for Funny Cars as the newest member of Texas Motorplex’s administrative team.

The Motorplex’s new Senior Director of Sales comes straight from a five-year stint at the great State Fair of Texas, where she served in marketing, group sales and public relations. Menzer said she’s excited to join the jet-fueled team at the track.

“This is a thrilling time at Texas Motorplex, and I am so happy to lend my experience in marketing and promotions to the track’s continued success,” said Menzer. “We have so much to offer our sponsors and the community – from racing to car shows to concerts. And with the 28th annual AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals just a couple months away, it’s full speed ahead.”

Texas Motorplex was the first all-concrete stadium-style drag racing facility ever constructed. Built in 1986, Texas Motorplex has been the place of many drag racing milestones and world record performances. The Billy Meyer-owned facility hosts a number of racing and car show events between March and November each year and also features the Champion’s Club – an 11,000 square-foot facility – that serves fully catered events throughout the year.

During Menzer’s time on the fairgrounds, she rejuvenated the online ticket sales program and brought a corporate-focused view to the State Fair, which draws more than three million visitors each year. She also ran the event’s annual Corny Dog Eating Championship.

Menzer was a newspaper reporter for a decade prior to joining the Fair, and she continues to write for several publications today. She’s reported on a variety of topics, including education, immigration and breaking national news.

Although new to the drag racing world, Menzer said her past experiences with fast deadlines and state fair fryers have prepared her well for the challenges to come.

“I thrive in fast-paced environments under pressure, and it’s hard to find many places faster than the Motorplex,” she said.
