Racers for Christ will be hosting several activities at the 25th anniversary O’Reilly Fall Nationals
Larry Smiley, President of Team RFC® (Racers For Christ), along with his wife Linda will be traveling to the TX Motorplex this week for the 25th anniversary of the O’Reilly Super Start NHRA Nationals. Larry and Linda are the NHRA National event chaplains. They, along with Team RFC® South Central Regional Director and track chaplain Craig Garland will be heading up a ministry team during the event.
Throughout the weekend they can be found in the staging lanes and around the pits ministering to the needs and fellowshipping with drivers and fans alike. Racers For Christ®, a non-denominational ministry, has been active at the Motorplex since it opened in 1986.
Many activities will be going on this weekend from RFC, here are just a few:
• Children’s ministry throughout the weekend, including children’s church service on Sunday morning.
• Hosting guests through the “Believe in Tomorrow Foundation.” Taking terminally ill children and their families around to meet professional drivers in their pits.
• Praying with drivers and crews in the staging lanes before they compete.
• Sunday morning chapel service. Starts at 8:00 am. Located in the pits at the Matco Tools and DieHard Hospitality tent. Chapel service is welcome to all racers and fans.
Team RFC® is entering their 40th year of ministry to the world of motorsports with more than 330 volunteer chaplains serving in 34 states, Canada, and Mexico.
Circus Motorsports 7th Annual Greg Morris Memorial Golf Tournament Presented by Capco Contractors/Torrence Family Racing
On Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at 11:00 am the Circus Motorsports 7th Annual Greg Morris Memorial Golf Tournament will be open to all NHRA racers, crew members, staff and sponsors. The four player team scramble type tournament will be held at the Old Brickyard Golf Course in Ferris just 15 minutes from the Texas Motorplex. At the conclusion of the tournament, there will be a dinner and awards presentation followed by an auction at the clubhouse. Shotgun start begins promptly at 11:00 am
All proceeds after expenses will go directly to a NHRA racer/member in need which is to be determined. For those of you that did not know Greg, he worked for the Texas Motorplex and Hallsville Raceway. Greg was diagnosed with brain cancer six months before Heather, his daughter, lost her mother in a tragic car accident. After a long and courageous 2½ year battle, Greg left 7 year old Heather to be loved and raised by the love of his life, Debi Feaster. We chose this fundraiser to not only honor Greg, but to do our part in helping a wonderful man raise a beautiful daughter. Please join us for a great day of fun and festivities with your friends, competitors, and sponsors.
All racers who participate and are preregistered will begin parking their rig on Tuesday, September 21 at 4:30 p.m. at Gate 20.
