Texas Motorplex names Jordan as new PA announcer
18 year old drag racing enthusiast becomes the “Voice of the Motorplex” after statewide search
Ennis, TX (February 27, 2019) – Texas Motorplex, was the first all-concrete stadium style drag racing facility constructed and first ever NHRA “super track”. In 1986, visionary, Billy Meyer built the premier facility, changed the course of drag racing, and set the standard for which all other tracks have followed. Three decades later, and the Texas Motorplex is still a favorite of the fans and drivers for the all-concrete race surface, ideal weather conditions, and the incredible personalities that have entertained racers and guests alike. The Motorplex has been privileged to welcome some of the best announcers the sport has ever known, including; the late Lynn Nickerson, Dave McClelland, Steve Evans, Bob Frey and Alan Reinhart.
“When the position opened for the 2019 season we knew we had big shoes to fill. Not only did we need an announcer with a passion for motorsports, a voice for radio, and the ability to keep our guests entertained during a wide variety of events, we also needed someone with a great personality, a good sense of humor, a keen sense of promoting our partners, and someone familiar with all of our on-track talent,” Texas Motorplex General Manager Andy Carter said. “That is a huge undertaking and we feel that we found the perfect voice in Colton Jordan, and couldn’t be anymore pleased to announce Jordan as the 2019 Voice of the Motorplex!”
Jordan, a Louisiana native may only be 18, but he is no stranger to drag racing, coming from a long line of racers in Northeast Louisiana. He attributes his passion to his dad’s racing days before he was even born along with his own opportunity to jump into the sport at a young age in the NO Electronics class. His cousin Byron even won a no prep race in the Redemption series last year at the Motorplex. A studious kid, Jordan began studying the sport of drag racing and closely following NHRA. He watched every NHRA race from several seasons so many times that he could tell anyone, anything they wanted or needed to know about the sport, the drivers, and their teams.
“Drag racing is in my blood. In 2015, I came to the NHRA FallNationals and fell in love with the Texas Motorplex. I’ve always dreamed about being a PA Announcer at a drag strip after listening to the likes of Alan Reinhardt and Joe Castello announce national events. Their ability to put you in the seat with the driver and understand what was going on during the run always intrigued me,” Colton stated. “That’s something I hope I can relay to the awesome fans at the Motorplex. I can’t thank the Texas Motorplex staff and management enough for allowing me the opportunity to add my name to legends who have graced the mic at this historic race track! I’m excited to see what the 2019 season holds for me and for these awesome racers!”
The quote Colton Jordan lives by gives great insight into what kind of man he is and the Motorplex is pleased to share the coveted PA Announcer title with him this season.
